Writing For Multimedia - 30/10/2007 wk14

Meet Giampaolo Bergamasco. One of the all time greats of World Football and famously known for playing an important role in the midfield in Italy's 2006 World Cup triumph. He also played for Serie A giants Juventus playing in their 1996 Champions League triumph and also being apart of Juventus' Serie A victories in 2002 and 2003. He scored 25 goals for Italy and 50 goals for Juventus and was capped 62 times for Italy and 275 times for Juventus. His greatest
achievement was being crowned European Footballer of the year in 2000.

Since retiring from International and Domestic football, Giampaolo Bergamasco has decided to start a new life in the Second Life world contributing to the newly constructed Space Station and Managing Minds Share(MM Share). Having a lengthy interview process with President Jay and Vice-President Eddy, they thought he was the right man for the job electing him as the main security guard for the Space Station and MM Share. They presented him with a powerful space gun used for protecting the residents from International terrorists from invading the area. He begins his duties tomorrow morning.

Writing For Multimedia - 9/10/2007 wk11

After brainstorming as a class which task we would be doing for our Second Life Space Station project, I have decided to design space guns in Second Life. These gun designs range from Pop guns, Pistols, Ray guns, Cosmic guns, Tommy Guns, Rifles, Launchers, Laser guns, Martian guns, Blaster guns, Rocket guns, Atomic Orbiters, Roto Blasters, Police guns, Jet guns, Machine guns,Cannon guns and other guns from Comic book series. I will be mainly using my resource and inspiration from Star Trek and Star Wars since both franchises were globally popular at the time.

By designing space guns enables Second Life residents of the Space Station to have fun shooting each other with different objects. I was thinking with my suggestions I mentioned previously on my blog site, the space guns will be in the main dome. To access the main dome, you have to crack the code in each small colour coded dome to activate the main colour coded switch near the main room to access the room. Once you gain access to the room, there will be a wide range of space guns to choose from.

I might also design space jet packs and transport depending on how I progress with the space guns.

In today's class we started brainstorming what features we would have for our Space station. Some of the features I researched were platforms for the Space station and Space rangers.

Space ranger2

Space ranger3

Some suggestions I came up with for the Space station story is the small domes surrounding the main dome will each have different colours. Inside those small domes will have main control rooms where you have to crack the code in each colour coded control room to activate the main colour coded switches near the main dome to access the room.

In today's class we learned how to create Pop guns in Second Life and use various objects as bullets. I used cushions, seats and couches as bullets which was quite fun to use. My next task is to research costumes for the Second Life Space Station.

For today's class we learnt about non-linear narratives and were shown examples of Seven Story Shapes by Katherine Phelps. We were also shown an example of a computer-generated cybertext called Eliza and we were given the chance to interact with it. We were then asked to research an Alternate Reality Game of our choice. I chose Never Rest Game which is a new counter-terroism ARG in which players must thwart terrorism by using their own methods against them when they least expect it. The interesting thing about this ARG is that it describes itself as explicitly educational and is more of an Instructional Alternate Reality Game (I-ARG).

Towards the end of the lesson, we watched a movie called Run Lola Run which showed an example of a non-linear story.

In today's class, we were introduced to telling stories in a linear narrative format. We used and discussed examples such as Greek Drama, The Myth Cycle, Hero's Journey and other examples of mythology by Joseph Campbell. We then watched a 1980s series called Monkey and later analysed the linear narrative format of the show. Examples were the setup, the turning point, the crises and the climax.

Today we designed our own T-shirts for our characters using Photoshop. I designed an Essendon T-shirt for my character. We then had to create our own objects in Second Life and then discussed which worlds we are working on. We all decided to work on a Space Station.

For today's class, our first exercise was to take a photo of ourselves in class and take a snapshot of our characters in Second Life. We then had to compare them at the end. Our second exercise was to create a massive box in Second Life and apply our photo onto the box. Our last exercise was to start building our own houses.

After comparing both images, the only differences was the image in Second Life had a bald head and a more muscular build.

Writing For Multimedia - 7/8/2007 wk4

Today we got the chance to experience the worlds of Second Life. We created our own characters and explored various worlds.

Here are some of the worlds I explored:

Inochi Island

After exploring Inochi Island, I found it to be a peaceful and relaxing island with plenty of places to visit. There are towels and seats to relax on and stalls to purchase items.

AM Sports Arena

After exploring AM Sports Arena, I found it to be an exciting and appealing stadium. There were plenty of billboard advertisements,TV screens and benches for both teams. A criticism would be lack of stands in the stadium with only one available.

San Julienne Straits

I found San Julliene Straits to be an exciting and appealing club with a massive dancefloor to dance on, speakers and smoke to add effect. There were also plenty of pictures and other places to visit.

After reviewing our three worlds, we then strated to brainstorm different worlds and times to include in Second Life.

Writing For Multimedia - 31/7/2007 wk3

In today's class we were asked to attempt an exercise where we had to access a web page full of images Stefan came up with.
We had to choose three images and come up with a story using the selected images. Next we dicussed about character creation for our Second Life projects. We then had to come up with a character including its name, physical appearance and personality.

Character brainstorms I came up with:

-Name: Eddy Fernandez
-Height of around 150-180 cm
-Hair colour: Dark
-Ethnic background: Spanish/Argentinian descent
-Eyes: Brown
-Loves attending Soccer matches and hanging around Latin Clubs
-Gifted in Soccer (currently trying out for the Barcelona Football team)
-Age: 22
-Fun and outgoing
-Humerous pesonality

Writing For Multimedia - 24/7/2007 wk2

In today's class, we discussed a person's opinion on the use of the internet. We also watched an application presentation on the predicted evolution of the internet til 2014. We then dicussed brainstorms on the Second Life project and sorted ourselves into groups to work on a partcular facility. I chose a Sports Stadium along with Waseem.

Waseem and I discussed brainstorms on designing a Football Stadium. Here are the brainstorms we came up with:

-Siren -Toilets -Cameras (security and media) -Multi level stands (Approx 5 levels) -Security -Shopping areas -Hall Of Fame/Museum (statues) -Sitting rooms -Media rooms -Resturants -Public seating -Change rooms -Giant TV Screens -Bars -Automatic roof -Pitch -Speakers -Gymnasium -Photographers -Grass/Turf -Bench -Lights -VIP Seating -Mmbership -Merchandise -Ticket outlets -Statues -Athletics track -Sponsorship/Marketing -Lakes/Parks -Concerts -Advertisements -Lifts -Esculators -Ambulance -First Aid -Betting Agency -Bars -Touch screen navigators -Gates (Approx 10-12) -Capacity (100,000+) -Bridge (easy access to Football Stadium) -Multi level carparking (free of charge) -Station

Secret: -Hatch underneath the stadium -Time machine -Secret room with mirror walls -White room -Another Second Life town underneath the stadium including links to other towns

Writing For Multimedia - 17/7/2007 wk1

Today we were introduced to the subject and what work and assessments were involved. We talked about our previous backgrounds and dicussed the definition of multimedia. We also were introduced to online virtual reality worlds which was quite amazing to view.
